Well, time to blog for another semester. The title of my blog came with the help of a friend of mine. I have never been very good at coming up with titles for anything...
For those who don't know me, my name is Kim. I am a third year student majoring in Anthropology. This is, however, my first full year at UVic. I began my studies at the University of Manitoba as a geologist. After learning that I wasn't very good at chemistry, I switched my major to anthropology. I had taken an elective in physical anthropology and archaeology during my first year and straight away, I was sold. As of right now, my minor is in Medieval Studies, but that may change to a major in addition to my major in Anthropology, should time allow.
Archaeology is very much my main interest when it comes to anthropology as a whole. More specifically, I am interested in the United Kingdom and Scotland in particular. I can't decide whether I like the Vikings or the Celts more. At this point in the game, I'm still testing out the waters, but one thing I know for sure, is that I like their stuff. Art, grave goods, pots, jewellery and all their fancy things are what I wish to explore further. Death and funerals have always been of interest to me (I'd reckon it's mostly due to the goodies found in graves) and the ritual behind it all is fascinating.
Outside of university, I enjoy playing and watching rugby, baking, brewing beer and mead, hiking and photography. As soon as my package arrives, I will be experimenting with chainmail, which should be good fun. I am also attempting to plan a wedding while juggling my classes this semester, so I'm hoping my sanity will stay with me. Research and the such should keep me occupied enough that I won't have time to stress about it all!
